About Us

A bit of history:

The Temiskaming Angler and Hunter Association (TAHA) was formed by a small group of approximately 6-8 individuals back in late 2004. The backgrounds of these individuals varied quite a lot however their interests were somewhat common be it fishing, hunting, environmental issues, conservation and love of the outdoors. Furthermore, they were rather concerned that local sporstmen and outdoor enthusiasts really did not have a means of keeping abreast of the many issues affecting our natural resources along with communicating amongst themselves.

Following several meetings and discussions, the group felt it was time to create an association where its goal would be to protect and enhance the traditional activities of hunting and fishing by providing its members with relevant information pertinent to those activities, working cooperatively with all agencies in the pursuit of sound fish and wildlife conservation, acting as a conduit or voice whereby all members' concerns regarding policies or legislation may be brought to the appropriate agency for discussion and working cooperatively with other conservation groups and clubs to enhance an appreciation of outdoor activities. A constitution was drafted in August 2005 and an inaugual meeting was held at College Boreal in September 2005. TAHA affiliated itself with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) that comprises approximately 600 clubs throughout Ontario and approximately 86,000 members.

What's taken place ?

Since 2005, TAHA has been quite active in a number of areas such as: a moose management seminar where several MNR biologists were invited to discuss their particular programs in WMU 28 and 40, several fisheries meetings were held with MNR representatives and local anglers in view of expressing issues and concerns, the extension of a deer hunt in WMU 28, the availability of seals for wolves and coyotes in the Tri-Town areas, hosting monthly meetings for its members between September and June where an array of speakers have been invited to discuss ATV and snowmobile safety, bear and deer biology and management, basics of photography, chronic wasting disease and rabies, pike filleting techniques, turkey hunting, facts of fishing, fisheries culture and management, survival tips, cheers and jeers from conservation officers' past experiences, stewardship councils, caribou hunting just to name a few.

Additionally, the Association has been very active with the formation of a Youth Group where activities like ice fishing, bird identification and banding, construction and installation of duck and bat boxes, loon nesting platforms and conservation walks have taken place.

TAHA's executive meets on a monthly basis to keep on top of issues that are of importance to all enthusiasts in order to eventually share that information with them.

Currently, three executive members are directors of the OFAH Zone C.

Our membership stands at approximately 100 members.
